Nauriz Celebration

Nauriz is both the Kazakh new year and the celebration of spring. And they are right to celebrate spring! After a long harsh winter, the turning of the seasons is a rejuvenating and refreshing time. Though Nuriz is actually celebrated mid-March, when spring is still on the cusp, the locals at AIS put on a celebration in early April once spring has settled in nicely. A warm and sunny Saturday afternoon made for a great day celebrating community, food, and Kazakh traditions.
As we entered the building we were greeted with the welcome crew who clapped and cheered as we walked through.
The spread of food is amazing, not to mention the giant pot of plov simmering outside.
Our hosts Ms. Madina and Mr. T in traditional dress.
One of AIS's security guard's serenades us with a song on his dombra.
Then he played as his daughter did a lovely dance.
Another beautiful young dancer.
Delyia and Darahun, a couple that works at AIS regularly dance at AIS festivities.
They always seem to captivate the audience.
Mr. T supports his daughter Esther as she performs an Uzbek dance.
Lovely ladies Madina, Arzu, Talshyn and Aziza.
